modern Latin, < Greek ἀν priv. + ὀσμή smell.
Pathol.

Loss of the sense of smell.  (OED)


[Some proteins, mutations in which are linked to a certain kind of disease,] are also expressed in the nose, and mutations in them can cause anosmia.
